Say it Again

I love this video. I love it cos it is quite original (or so I think cos I havent seen such quirky, Alice in the Wonderland-ish video for a long time) and the thing(s) that made the video stands out is the props used for different settings with real people walking in and out of the screen which I think the director had done it on purpose. All Ms Digby has to do is to strum her guitar, sing and look pretty - which she successfully did.

It is also quite easy to associate this video with Digi's latest ad campaign. The "I Love..." ad campaign. Especially good is the tvc (tv commercial in short) ... makes me smile everytime I watch it played on tv. AND, makes me thought about switching to Digi. Hmm....

Hard Core Mama Madonna

The entire universe is waiting for the much anticipated album of 2008. No, it wasn't E=MC2. No, no... as a matter of fact, I had it with "Touch My Body". Really, really enough of touching my body. Grrrr.... fyi, whichever local radio you tune in to lately, you will inevitably get to listen it. I remember there was one time I listened to this song like, 7 times in the entire day from different radio stations. Can die.

Anyways...

I wanna talk about Mrs Ritchie, famously known as Madonna. April 29th is D-Day and there are already plenty of release parties around the world for this upcoming album of hers that is more R&B funk than electronic dance. The first single, a collabo with JT and Timbaland, is a case in point that Ms M is still very relevant and that she has garnered a lot more younger fans. I know my nephew is singing to tick, tock, tick, tock.

The Homecoming Queens

Haha... I wasn't going to blog on the Mardi Gras. Tho' I wish I was there *shrugs*

This year is the return of the music divas. The come-back queens, they call it. For those of you who've unfortunately seen the rather adolescent-ish, somewhat Lindsay Lohan-ish, Paula Abdul's new MTV for her first single, err "Dance Like there is no tomorrow" on American Idol 7 two weeks back, you problably cringed a little. C'mon, I'm sure you did? Either that or you thought she was good!

(If truth be told, I thought she was Ooo-Kay-lahhhh. Uknow, like when you said to yourself after bingeing on that piece of fried chicken from pasar malam :p)

Then, there was the released of the much anticipated album from Ms Minogue early this year after her recovery from breast cancer and break-up with moronic, cheater bf of hers. I totally dig the new album cover and of cos, the album did not disappoint at all. Not the least bit tho' her first single is a tad Goldfrappish's "Beautiful".





Of cos, there was Celine Dion.

And, this month, Ms Janet's brand spanking album, "Disciplined", is released all over the world. Lookin' really good in her new video and much less pretentious, I'm confident this one will do well. I can't expect it to be like "Janet" or "Velvet Rope" but from the first two listenings, I am loving much.




Of cos, next month, there is That (FAT) Chick, Mariah Carey and her follow-up album after her emancipation to Mimi. Have you heard of the new single? Haha... it was fun while it lasted. That is all I can say. Don't get me started on the MTV and that her omnipresent "water balloons" :p Did I mention her album is called, ahem, E = MC2? Didnt take a genious to figure that one out!


Lastly but not least - I heard somewhere that Whitney Houston is releasing an album this year - there is Mrs Ritchie, the madame of pop, Madonna. "Hard Candy" is the title of the album. Justin Timberlake, Pharell and Timbaland are said to be collaborating with her this time. I've listened to the first single yesterday (they have removed it since) and I thought it is a pretty good Body Jam song. Haha... Well, I can't wait. It's Madonna, people!






For what it's worth, at least they can spare us the Britney, Lindsay, Hilary (both), *gasp* Paris.

I'm so hooked to a certain Mr. Khalil Fong. No, he is NOT a local singer/artiste/whatchumicallit. He is one up-and-coming HK R&B singer that the media dubbed him the "Jay Chou of HK". He spots a super doofus looking glasses (which will be in my next shopping list tho' I shoulda got one when I bot ad his in BKK) and from his blog, I think he is super talented.

I'm seriously so hooked to 'Love Song' since I heard it over at Channel V last night.

Happy Ending (Part I)

It is closing to the year end. The retailiers are busy prepping their store with Xmas ornaments, like, yours truly (which I truly enjoy doing; seriously). In retrospect, 2007 (up till today) has been a hell of a busy year.

I am closing the year by counting down "My Favourite 2007 Year-End Songs".

2. Mika's Happy Ending .... Love him for being so eccentric, so creative - both in music and everything he does; and he rocked Munich recently at the EMA performing another fav "Grace Kelly". And if he is gay or not, oh who cares. Focus on what he does best, people.

Feist / The Reminder - A little folksy compared to the 2005 album, 'Let it Die', and as an (self-claim) unconventional / art-junkie, I am attracted to the album's cover which I have to say would mislead people that this album is of funky dance music genre - check out their tour poster. Damn cool. Anywho, if 'One Evening' (from 'Let it Die') is a little chill out funk, then this latest offering is quite mysterious like a folklore. If I talk any sense there :p


Mutya Buena / Real Girl - Her first solo album since she left Sugababes (not the same no more). I always love her soulful voice and I think this is a first good effort. I love 'Real Girl' mainly cos she sampled the classic Lenny Kravitz's 'It ain't over till it's over' in it. I really hope she does well. And, by the way, I think when you are famous no matter how weird your name is, it will become cool, yes? Imagine, Muthu Singam, a hot fashion young designer from New York. LOL.

Groove Armada / Songboy Rock - Very different from their previous efforts. But, I like much cos it's quite retro.

Mark Ronson / Version - He received plenty of write-ups on local and international magazines recently mainly because he is currently the hot DJ/producer in the UK - his work includes the supercool & hugely popular Amy Winehouse's 'Back to Black' and Lily Allen's 'Alright, Ok' . So, I got curious and went on to check out his CD (translate: download). Boy, was I impressed. It is very 70s, and I am somewhat reminded of the first Ocean 11's OST. Best track: "Valerie", "Oh My God" & "Stop Me".

It won't be soon before long

I am digging Maroon 5's latest song, "Makes me wonder." It infuses with a bit of 80s eletronica sound yet it has got a modern feel to it. I love the video, the lead, his hairstyle and his very Tom Ford-ish get up. Cool much.

American Idol is getting a little bit more interesting than the previous 2 seasons. Thank God for Melinda Doolittle, and the boys - Chris and Blake. I find Ryan Seacrest darn irritating, tho. And my prediction (after Stephanie Edward got cut) is (still) Melinda Doolittle.

As The Amazing Race All Star is nearing to it's final leg, I would like to see either the Beauty Queens or the Drama Queens (C&M) to win. Not my favourite teams but to be fair, they worked really hard so far.

These girls are made to Sing

I don't know what is the fuss with Beyonce's new single, Beautiful Liar, featuring Shakira. The video is lame, the gyrating is so not sexy and very choreographed. The song, well, quite boring, if you asked me. Beyonce should chill for a little while and let these girls do the singing.

And, I mean singing. Not shouting.






You'd probably think I must be kidding about Jennifer Lopez and her singing, right? You are right. She's no soul singer comparing to the rest of the lot but this time, she has matured since marrying that skinny dude; or, so I'd like to think. I haven't listened to it, yet. I simply love the cover :p

Music, Live!

Can music change your mood? Influence a person's mind? And, erm, alter lives?

I have always been very fond of music since my 1st cassette day - it was Tommy Page AND Paula Abdul, if you must know - really explains a lot of my preference, eh? *smirk* In those days, cassettes were a luxury and having an original cassette (mind you, there were copies back then) was deemed cool. Many other cassettes and CDs later, I am still very fond of music. Without music, there really isn't life. Like TV, Internet, Starbucks, clean underwears and Bak Kut Teh.


But, can music really alter lives? It changes my mood, yes. If I am stressed out at work, pissed off with my staff or a customer who criticized my products (esp. bags), as cliche as it might sound I would prefer to turn on some chill out music, burn some home essential oil & just, relax. That's relaxation and it is priceless for a materialistic urbanite like me. Or, when I am stuck in a massive traffic jam for no reason in the city, I would play some funky music, music of dance, pop or rock genre. And sing out loud. The person in the car next to me can laugh all he/she wants.


It influences a person's mind. Yes, too. Imagine playing Quizas, Quizas, Quizas in a shop that sells colorful products of all sorts for your house *grin*. And, you have some stash to spend. You will, inevitably buy something from the store. No? Of cos, if the shop assistant looks like this, I would spend another hour just browsing.

Alter lives? Hmm...that I cannot comprehend. Gary Chaw, the very popular local Chinese singer from Malaysia who made it big recently in Taiwan and other Chinese speaking regions (yeah, Malaysia Boleh - duh) was quoted as saying that music changed his life. People like Stevie Wonder and R. Kelly.

1. Happy Feet OST - If you are a regular here, you do know how much I love that movie. The music is not an exception. Take a listen to Brittany Murphy's voice and Pink doing a fun number. You'll be tapping your foot and wished you were born a penguin. .... Err, maybe not.
   


2. Running with Scissors OST - I love Augusten Burrough. I am reading his latest memoirs, "Possible Side Effects" which is as wickedly funny as RWS. And, I had just watched the movie last night and I think Annette Benning did a superfine role as his drugged up, psychotic, self-centred mother who is more interested with chasing her dream to become a famous poet than caring for him.



3. What comes around, goes around - Justin Timberlake from FutureSex/LoveSound. I can never get enough of this man.



4. PDA (We just don't care) - John Legend from Once Again. The MTV makes me really, really want to go to South America, esp. Brazil and Buenos Aires.



5. Centrefold - Pink from I'm not Dead.



6. Dreamgirls OST - This album appeals to a lot of my fellow pink friends. I am not alone. We love Jennifer Hudson. Seriously love.



7. Life in a Cartoon Motion - Mika. This Lebanese born and raised in Paris is huge at the moment. You don't fcking know who he is? Imagine a bit of Queen, a bit if George Michael and a bit of Scissors Sisters. You get the drift.



8. Candyman - Christina Aguilera from Back to Basic. One word: Cabaret, very Chicago



9. This ain't a scene, it's an arm's race - Fall out Boys from Infinity on High. This song really, really get me going.



10. Black Holes and Revelations - Muse. I've first heard of Muse that was 4 years back and they were ur regular English band blokes. Their music has changed quite a bit since and it appeals more to the mass especially the single, 'Starlight'. I am not about to complain except that I miss their fcking good concert in KL recently.



11. Ricky Martin MTV Unplugged - One of the must-have MTV Unplugged album. Look out for him shaking his bon-bon and grabbing his crotch AND shaking his bon-bon and having a lot of fun doing it - his singing was flawless and the band! They rocked it, man. This is what I call true musicians.

13. Hey Oh (Snow) - Red Hot Chilli Peppers. This song so addictive it is like eating Mentos' Mix. Mmmm...
