That Beachy Look

I have signed up for the Mizuno run at Padang Merbok this Sunday almost 2 months ago, I think. The thought of running another 10km didn't really give me sweaty palms nor a nervous breakdown because this will be my ... KLIM, New Balance, Adidas ... fourth run and perhaps, the final run for this year (if that made me sound like a boastful prick, please forgive me. I am not boasting, really. In fact, I think this is like my 1st ever post on marathon for 2008, the year I ran the most in my entire life LOL).

Running up (sic) to the actual run this Sunday, your thought must be that I am prepared and have trained really well for this run, yes? Quite truthfully, I haven't been training if it means several outdoor run a week and working on my leg muscles. What I have been focusing more is AHEM, my upper body muscles because AHEM, going for a beach holiday early next month.

Ok, shoot me for being a vainpot LOL. I thought if I set a goal to achieve that beach body that I have oh so unashamedly shared with my frens (I'm quite sure they've got sick of listening to me talking about getting a beach body), I may just get a beach body. After all, I read somewhere it is the secret - but, I strongly doubt if I ever get my 6-pack abs since I haven't exactly stopped myself from my char kway teows, roti canai and oh so delish fried chicken. How ironic, eh?

Back to achieving that beach body ....

This? I am not so sure :p

This maybe achieavable.

And no, I am not planning to dress like a Gisele Bundchen drag on the beach. I thought these pics are awesome and hope to capture some, too.

As for achieving that beach body, I might just end up looking slighly bulky LOL (I cant wait for my beach hols, tho)

Truly, Sweaty, Alluring

Finally. I'm back gyming after one week of non-gyming. My excuse was I needed to recover from the 15km run 2 wks before. Heh. Not only I got sick, I felt flabby like a 'sotong'.

The class I did was Body Pump in the morning - I love morning classes because the crowd is SO different from the evening crowd. More matured gentlemen and women and less 'pasar malam'. C'mon, you do agree with me that at times, the evening classes or crowd in the gym can be quite a pain in the *bleep*, no? Maybe, it's just me.

So anyways, there was a couple of aunties in the class - no, the auntie with a lot of head dress no longer does BP; I think she's been told to take it easy with her knees, so she's permanently doing yoga - some ang moh housewives and of cos, a few good men :)

There was this uncle, white hair and all, probably in his late 50s, looking super fit. Imagine muscular legs and only maybe 10% of visible fat on his body, tan and quite hip, too. Hip cos he had with him his iPod classic, yes, he was bobbing his head listening to his iPod and when he walked in late for the class walking passed me, I could smell the all too familiar Chanel's Allure.

Hmm, left a lot to my very imaginative mind why of all male fragrance he wore Chanel's Allure. And, BEFORE class commences.

How interesting, no? Interesting cos there were plenty of hot looking ahem, middle age ladies in the room exposing the cleavages and then some. Interesting, also, cos who wears perfume BEFORE working out?

Do you?

Yikes.

Run Baby Run

I told my nephews that I am going for a marathon this Sunday.

The younger one quickly asked, "May-ra-ton? What is that?"

The brother, who is 11 this year, was shocked, "Serious? How far? 10km?"

"Yes, you are right. 10km."

"But you are going to die! Crazy lah!"

"No, I won't die lah. It is not my first time running a marathon. In fact, it is my..." Countin' in my head, I think this will be my 6th times running a 10km.

"My 6th times."

"SERIOUSLY? Wow. You are crazy. You can die right?"

"No. I won't die lah. Stop sayin' I'd die."

Sheesh, I doubted myself after sayin' that cos the 6th time I did a 10km, it was 4 years ago? I was really a lot younger then, too.

I assured the little fella that I will be fine. He even offered to lend me his Sony Walkman. Genuinely lettin' me have it.

All he said was, "Sure! I need to tell mom first. Anyway, here's the cable to charge and transfer songs..."

I almost teared. Of cos, I have to finish this race for him. Mr. Bravo expected me to finish it within 80 minutes just so we could get the qualifying medal. Darn! All I wanted is to finish the race and hope to do another sometime mid of the year. He wasnt gonna buy that excuse. We don't call him Sgt Chilli Pepper for nothin'.

So. I was dubious of the achievement tho' we've been sorta "training" at Bukit Kiara hills most Sunday mornings this month & trekking at Sg Chilling (not sure if that counts ... I really enjoy the outdoors. Seriously).

I will, nonetheless, endeavour to get a medal this time while chillin' out to High School Musical soundtrack LOL. Pray for me.

By the way, my nephew's playlist is pretty interesting... there's of cos, High School Musical songs, and then there is Beyonce's 'Irreplaceable', My Chemical Romance, Daughtry, Michael Buble amongst others.

By by the way, I love love love the new Body Combat track dunno no. what. Love. The instructor was so cute. He asked ad if I've got phobia cos I havent been to his class for a qhile since I kicked a gal's head in his class while doin' the back kick; consequently causing her to yes, cry. In the gym and in public. Poor gal. I felt soo bad I decided to stop & ran on the treadmill. She assured me she is fine but I didn't feel good.

The fear is gone (4 weeks now?) and I'm back. Wish I could do more classes this month.

Truly, madly, Fitness

I have been a very loyal gym member with a local gym club for, 4 years now? Never had I thought of switching club when all the other new gym clubs opened its doors all over Klang Valley like mushrooms after the rain. There are the Yoga fitness centre, the Gold Club, the California club, the Disco club ... oops, I mean, celebrity club and yeah, you get the drift.

Basically, when a new club opened its door to the public, they’d screamed ‘bigger space’, ‘better facilities’ and ‘much more studios to accommodate the "usually crowded small gym" all across Klang Valley.’

I didn't buy it. Tho' I must admit I was a little curious. Still, I did not attempt to get a free pass to check out other gyms cos I simply like my fitness first in my regular gym. Besides, I like that I get to visit all the clubs all over Klang Valley whenever and whichever I like – but, seriously, I only patronize the PJ outlets J

So, I switched job 2 months ago and yes, near where I work, they are opening another larger than life gym. Of course, I am tempted by the convenience which prompted me to take the free pass and checked out the PJ outlet 2 days back. A young, fresh face “Fitness Consultant” came quickly and attended to me.

FC: Hi! I am Vince. How are you ah today? (in Cantonese)

Me: I am good. Thank you.

FC: So you want to try out our gym. You do fitness?

Me: Yes, of course. In fact, I am a member of * club* for 4 years now.

FC: Wow! Really ah? *He nodded profoundly* So, what is your fitness goal ah?

FITNESS GOALS? Gee, that totally caught me off guard. I tried to think of something intelligent and said,

I simply want to work out to stay sane. (It’s true!)

Not at all intelligent cos Mr. Fresh face gave me a puzzle look.

Me: Yes, I am very stressed out at work and I need to work out to have a fresh mind. You know, the whole Body, Mind and Soul thing?

FC: So you want to lose weight?

Fuck.

Me: Yes, I feel like John Travolta in Hair Spray, you know.

FC: Err…. Ok. He totally missed the punchline.

Mr. Fresh face proceeds to ask the usual questions i.e. how often do I go to the gym (3 times at least). Do I want to look fit, tone up etc? (No, I wanna continue to look like John Travolta from Hair Spray).

And he proceeded to show me around the gym where I was mostly checking out the interior design of the place more than I checked out the fitness machines or how massive the place is – FYI, they did not stinge in doing up the place. Good quality stuff ; I was quite impressed.

After the tour, we got to the best part of the club. The “infinity pool” and spa on level 4.

Could I dive into the pool now and swim a few laps. And after that, could you get me a glass of martini. Dry?

Of course, that was just my imagination. I didn’t want to scare Mr. Fresh face off. Besides, he obviously doesn’t have a funny bone in him. So, I just smiled with approval. Later back in level 1, he went to seek for a Personal Instructor to measure my total fat in my body, blood pressure and heart rate.

Total Fat: 24.1%.
Percentage more than 24% is considered, gulp, OBESE! And, I’m fucking OBESE! By 0.1%!!!! NOW, I do feel like John Travolta in Hair Spray :(

Blood Pressure: Normal

Resting Heart Rate: 55

“Wow, you are … very fit! Do you do sports?” asked the PT.

“Nope. Just gym.” I replied smugly.

“Very good lah. Now we can start with our first PT session.

The one hour PT session was OK followed up by another 30 mins chilling out at the “infinity pool” at the “roof top”.

Ah. Now, that was pure joy. I could sit there entire day reading a book, trust me.

I must say at the end of the day, I was very pleased with the service and especially the facilities. I might just switch.
